Carolyn E. Smith
PHOENIX, AZ- Carolyn Smith 82, was at home, surrounded by family, when she passed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 1, 2021.
Carolyn Esther Hovis was born September 23, 1939 in Smethport, PA. Carolyn attended elementary school in a one room school house, graduated from Port Allegany High School, and soon after married Eugene Smith in 1958.
They would have their first three children, Eugene Charles Smith Jr. (1958), Alan Joseph (1959) and Marcia Kay (1960), before moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 1961. Although mothering was her highest position, Carolyn served as a data entry technician before deciding to continue her family with the birth of Cara Dawn (1963), John Eric (1965), Lisa Reneé (1966), Marilu Teresa (1971) & Kristina Marie (1973). She later worked as a medical transcriptionist.
Then, in 1991, as a mother of eight, Carolyn finally got to start college at age 52! She attended Glendale Community College and graduated from Oral Roberts University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1997).
Carolyn worked as a nurse for Brian Center Rehab Facility, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, and also spent time volunteering at the Community Pregnancy Center in Prescott, a cause that was near and dear to her heart. She was active in her church, Bible study groups, and loved spending time with her friends & family.
Carolyn is survived by 4 sisters, 3 brothers, 7 children, 28 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and a large number of family members.
She is preceded in death by her son Gene Jr.
A funeral service will be held at the Port Allegany Alliance Church, with Rev. Allen Young, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
