Beverly J. Burroughs
ROULETTE- Beverly J. Burroughs, 75, of Card Creek Rd., passed away Sunday (May 28, 2017) in UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.
Born January 23, 1942, in Gowanda, NY, she was the eldest daughter of Clifford R. and Bette M. Maneval Burroughs.
Beverly graduated from Hadley-Luzerne High School, NY, and from Houghton College, class of 1965, with a BA degree in psychology, and graduate work at University of Buffalo.
After teaching briefly in New York public schools, Ms. Burroughs moved to Lost Creek, KY, where she taught at Riverside Christian Training School for 42 years. Mainly a kindergarten teacher, she served for a time as assistant principal and was involved in many aspects of the school program, including cheerleading and the cross country program.  She was a founding staff member of the Victorious Women, a ladies retreat ministry.  She was a member of the Sartwell Creek Union Church, Port Allegany, where she taught in the children’s program.
Surviving are her long-time friend, Marilyn Jestes of Roulette; two sisters, Bonnie J. Howard of Combs, KY, and Beth J. (Howard) Hughes of South Glenn Falls, NY; a nephew, Daniel Hughes, two nieces, Michelle Brown and Amy Slone; three great-nephews, and a great niece; two foster sons, Ronald and Raymond Ash; and two generations of staff and students at Riverside School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and brother-in-law, Eugene Howard.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday (May 31, 2017) in the Sartwell Creek Union Church, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at noon, with Rev. Allen Long and Rev. LaVerne Howard, co-officiating.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday (June 1, 2017) in the Valley View Church, Little Valley, NY, where a funeral service will be held at noon, with Rev. Don Reese officiating. Burial will be in Little Valley Rural Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Riverside Christian School,114 Riverside School Rd., Lost Creek, KY  41348.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
