Bertha L. HANCOCK, 85, formerly of West Bingham, PA, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the Christian Care Center, Smyrna, TN. Born May 23, 1929, in Sunderlinville, PA, she was the daughter of Warren and Anna Benn Rhodes. On August 4, 1990 in Ulysses, PA, she married Kenneth C. Hancock, who predeceased her on May 7, 2001. She was employed by the Council of the Aging in South Carolina, where she resided for 20 years. Bertha was a former member of the West Bingham Bible Union Church. Surviving are: three daughters, Linda (Fred) Pollock of Mills, PA, Kelly McCarthy of Madison, TN, and Penny McCarthy of Columbia, SC; a son, Joseph McCarthy of Matthews, NC; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Lisa McCarthy of Seale, AL; a brother, Harry (Jan) Rhodes of Goshen, IN; a sister, Phyllis McCaslin of Ulysses, PA; step-children, K. David (Tammie) Hancock of Ulysses, Dawn (Dennis) Marshall and Valerie (Steve) Tinder, both of West Bingham, Bert Cotton, Jr. of Camden, SC, Barbara Gardner of NY, John Cotton of NY, Susan Cotton of Fort Mill, SC, Cyndy Cotton, Peggy Patton, Jeffery Cotton, and Melinda Cotton, all of Lugoff, SC; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Michael McCarthy in 2008; three sisters, Virginia Hanes, Mildred Stocum, and Nettie Tanner; a step-son, Clifford Ray Hancock; and a step-daughter, Lorraine Bracey.
