Bernice L. Brown
PORT ALLEGANY- Bernice L. Brown, 100, formerly of Lillibridge Creek Rd., passed away Saturday (Oct. 16. 2021) in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born February 1, 1921, in Chadman Twp., Tioga County, PA, she was a daughter of Forrest R. and Edith M. Hunter West. On December 21, 1939, she married Arthur G. Brown, who died April 13, 2006. They were married 66 years.
Bernice was a longtime resident of the area and worked with her husband running the family farm. She also worked in the Port Allegany elementary cafeteria, retiring after 27 years of service.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Port Allegany, where she was a member of the Baptist Women. Bernice was also a member of the former Liberty Grange, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and former long-time 4H leader.
She enjoyed special times spent with family and friends as well as square dancing, cooking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was loved by all and will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving is a son, Earl K. (Kathleen) Brown of Coudersport; a daughter, Joyce E. Ryan of Hammondsport, NY; a daughter-in-law Mariberth Brown of Port Allegany; 8 grandchildren: Douglas (Lynne) Brown and Brad (Martha) Brown both of Mifflinville, PA, Nicole (Erich) Zaun and Todd (Bethany) Brown both of Coudersport, Thea (Andrew) Moore of Summit, NJ, Kyle Ryan of Crested Butte, CO, Timothy (Carla) Brown of Port Allegany, and Penny (Jeff) Miller of Hinsdale, NY, 17 great-grand-children; a nephew, Richard (Mary) Brown, and a niece, Barbara (Fred) Alt both of Port Allegany.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur, a son, Paul C. Brown in 2012, a daughter-in-law Maxine Brown in 1999, a son-in-law Thomas R. Ryan in 2011, and a grandson Brian Scott Brown in 1966, in infancy.
Friends will be received from 12 – 1 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 21, 2021) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Michael Culver, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Masks are requested by the family.
