Barton M. GREELEY, Sr., 98, of Austin, PA, died Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Wellsville Manor Care Center, Wellsville, NY.
Born February 18, 1925, in Austin, he was the son of Max C. and Blanche Purdy Greeley. On February 28, 1948, in Austin, he married the former Arlene Harrier, who survives. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2023. A 1943 graduate of Coudersport High School, he was a World War II Veteran, serving honorably with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed by National Transit walking pipeline 80 miles a week from Woolrich to Betula. He was then employed by Sylvania in Emporium, Austin Area School District as a custodian, and as President of Max Greeley and Sons, Inc. in Coudersport. He was a member of Austin VFW Post #7810 and the former Austin United Methodist Church.
Surviving besides his wife, Arlene, are: five children, Shirley (Gary) Meacham of Clara, Barton (Cynthia) Greeley, Jr. of Coudersport, Eugene (Rose Hershey) Greeley of Austin, Cathy Owens of Coudersport, and John (Monique Bates) Greeley of Coudersport; four grandchildren, Lisa (Andrew) Sottolano, Gary Meacham, Jr., Eric Meacham, and David Greeley; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, George Charles Greeley; a grandson, Kevin A. Greeley; three brothers, Rex G. Greeley, Wayne Greeley, and Max C. Greeley, Jr.
Services will be held on a later date. Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.
