SMETHPORT- Anne D. Potter, 92, of W. Green St., passed away Saturday (May 22, 2021) in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA.
Born on August 7, 1928, in Bradford, she was a daughter of Robert A. and Mirabel Hamlin Digel. On January 30, 1951, in Smethport, she married Judge William F. Potter, who died Jan. 16, 1995.
Anne was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Smethport Area High School, class of 1946, and the Katharine Gibbs School, New York, NY.
Anne spent her summers on Round Island, Clayton, NY.
She was a member and served on the Vestry of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Smethport, and she was also active and former Vestry member of The Church of St. Lawrence, Alexandria Bay, NY. She was a member of the DAR, a former Girl Scout Troop leader, and member of the Republican Women of McKean County, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, life member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, and friend of the Antique Boat Museum. She has shown her 1937 Launch, the HARM, in many boat shows and won numerous awards. She remained a consummate fundraiser for a variety of charities. Working jigsaw and crossword puzzles remained a passion, as did knitting; especially Christmas stockings for the family.
Surviving are a son, William “Scott” (Debra) Potter of Grove, OK; three daughters, Susan “Sudee” D. (Larry) Pollock of Apollo, PA, Harriett “Hattie” A. (Jimmie) Mason of Lubbock, TX, Amanda L. Potter of Potsdam, NY; two sons-in-law, Keith D. Strouse of Clayton, NY, and Karl A. Johnson of Smethport; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mirabel G. Sweet of Boulder, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Judge William, two daughters, Carol P. Johnson and Martha H. Strouse, two brothers, Robert A. and Howard E. Digel, and a sister, Hannah D. Potter.
Friends will be received from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday (May 29, 2021) in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Smethport, where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Deacon Deb Cavagnaro, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
