PORT ALLEGANY- Alton P. Spencer, Jr., 77, of Route 155, passed away Friday (Nov. 11, 2016) in his home, after a lengthy illness.
Born August 19, 1939, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Alton P. and Elizabeth Collier Spencer. On Nov. 21, 1981, in Port Allegany, he married Dawn M. Lanphere, who survives.
Alton was a lifetime resident of the area and attended the Port Allegany High School.
He was employed with Pittsburgh Corning Co., Port Allegany, as a supervisor in the purchasing department, retiring in 1997, after 38 years of service. He later became a Liberty Township supervisor and worked on the road crew for several years, before his retirement.
Mr. Spencer was a former fire chief with the Eldred Township Fire Department, a life member of the Star Hose Fire Department, and former driver with the Port Area Ambulance Service, both of Port Allegany.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Dawn, are two sons, David W. Spencer of Whittakers, NC, Jeffrey N. Spencer of Port Allegany; four daughters, Lori-Ann (Charles) Austin of Eldred, Beverly S. (David) Culver of Port Allegany, Candie L. (James) McFall of Turtlepoint, Tracie M. (Brian) Clayson of Olean, NY; 22 grandchildren: Brittany & Max Safonov, Shelby Spencer, Hailey & Cory Everritt, Zoey & Zachary Clayson, Jessica Gross, Nicole (Dan) Skinner, Lisa (Rachel) Henderschott, Wendy (Brian) Cullen, Kara Sinclair, Calvin Bell, Kayla (Keith) VanCamp, Cody, Matthew & Christopher McFall, and Destiny Culver; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Lee Spencer of Olean, NY, two stepbrothers, David McIsaac, of Port Allegany, Edward McIsaac of Depew, NY; a sister, Marlene Bush of Olean, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Allen P. Spencer; and two brothers, Walter and Edward Spencer.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 16, 2016) with Rev. Michael Culver, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the Star Hose Fire Department or the Port Area Ambulance Service.
